Apple silicon features the Apple MacBook Pro for the first time in a line that includes the company's custom ARM based silicon chip. This feat in engineering deserves praise. Although this laptop took a long time to make, it is now sleek, powerful, and very energy efficient. Compared to its predecessor, the new model boasts a 6K output, a spatial audio system, a USB4 port and a much more efficient adapter.
Apple is constantly working on new products. This is no secret. The company has introduced new iPhones as well as iPads, while also steadily improving its Mac range. The Macintosh 2013 13-inch model boasts a faster processor as well as more memory options. It also has a better signal processor. In addition, it boasts a new six watt adapter that's six times more powerful than the previous model. The battery life is nearly six hours making it an impressive successor to the previous generation.
Aside from a more expensive new model, Apple is reportedly also working on a high-end Mac mini. It is likely that we will soon see it. Further, the company has been working to develop its own silicon chips and it is likely that they will use them in the next generation MacBook Pro.
Apple M2, a 5nm TSMC process, is another new product that will be included in a variety of Macs. While it is not a groundbreaking chip, there are several interesting features. These include 20 billion transistors (50 percent more memory bandwidth) and a six percent decrease of power consumption. These are huge wins for Apple, who has been criticised for not innovating its consumer electronics product lines.
On the other hand, a redesigned Mac Air with MagSafe support and a redesigned MacBook Pro are due in 2022. Apple could be a leading player in personal computing if they can reach these targets. That is, if it can keep up with the competition. It will also depend on how much the consumer is willing to spend on tech.
We'll be content with the current MacBook Air and the latest MacBook Pro, which are both more affordable. Apple hasn't made any product announcements since October but the company did report a positive December quarter. In particular, Mac unit shipments grew 6.2%. Given that Apple accounted for the largest percentage of the smartphone market, it is only natural to assume that they are also making big bucks. These machines will be more popular with the release of the new model, and a rumored refresh later in the year.
